Pregnancy No-No’s

Ok before you get excited, I’m not pregnant … yet.  But I’m making a list of all the things that are off limits when I do get pregnant–or the things that should be limited.  Please leave a comment with your suggestions!!!

  • Alcohol
  • Restaurant made ceasar salad dressing/raw eggs
  • Raw fish sushi
  • Unpasteurized juice (e.g. cider)
  • High mercury fish
  • Deli meat
  • Raw shellfish
  • Soft cheeses (e.g. brie, camembert, roquefort, feta, gorgonzola)
  • Unwashed vegetables
What else do you need to avoid when pregnant??

Soft cheeses are actually off limits because they are not pasteurized, however; most feta and goat cheese that you buy in the cheese section of your local grocery store ARE pasteurized. My doc said that they are perfectly fine as long as they’re pasteurized so if feta and chevre are things that you eat on a regular basis, you really don’t have to limit those. :)

Before someone else brings it up: Caffeine is PERFECTLY safe during pregnancy but it must be limited to approximately 2 cups of coffee per day (or 2 small sodas, or 2 small teas). One cup of coffee in the morning and one in the afternoon is well within the “safe” caffeine limits.

My doctor also said nothing but Tylenol for general aches and pains.
