Three Month Baby Milestones

According to Baby Center a 3 month old can:

Mastered Skills (most kids can do):

Recognizes your face and scent: I definitely think baby E recognizes my/D’s face.  He will look toward us and smile a lot of the times when he sees us.  I don’t know how to judge if he recognizes our scent so I’ll just say he does!

Holds head steady: He can definitely do this.  It is amazing to watch and almost seemed to happen overnight.  Now when we’re carrying him around he is holding his head straight up and looking at the world around him.

Visually tracks moving objects: He’s been able to do this for over a month now.  It’s really cool if you make eye contact with him and move from side to side he’ll follow you as well!

Emerging Skills (Half of kids can do):

Squeals, gurgles, coos: Definitely.  I try to imitate him and we’ve had “conversations” that have lasted for a few minutes.  Sometimes it sounds like he’s saying “uh-oh” and when he cries it always sounds like “ma” or “mama” … breaks my heart!

Blows bubbles: He can dot his but I’m not sure he’s doing it intentionally.  Then again, I’m not sure if the skill requires he be doing it intentionally so let’s just count it!

Recognizes your voice: I definitely think so.  Sometimes he will turn toward our voice which is my “proof” of him recognizing it!

Does mini-pushup: Ok if I’m honest …. not really.  Just the other day he lifted his head clear up while doing tummy time.  And today (not technically w/in three months) he was leaning against me and completely lifted up his head!  I think some more tummy time (he hates it and we are bad about encouraging it) is in his future!

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do):

Rolls over, from tummy to back:  He cannot do this but he has started to try rolling from his back to his tummy.  He gets onto his side but then his arm/shoulder is in his way.  But it will only be a little while before he’s completely rolling over!

Turns toward loud sounds: Definitely.  He definitely responds to loud sounds.

Can bring hands together, bats at toys: He’s been bringing his hands together and interlocking his fingers for a few weeks now (and then they usually both wind up in his mouth!).  And he’s been batting at toys on the playmat for a while now as well.  I’m not quite as sure how deliberate that is but he definitely does it!

And of course … a new photo of the little man:

Ok mom … let’s get this show on the road!
