I Need a Vacation!

So forgive me if I sound whiny. Or entitled.  I am perfectly aware that there are tons of people who simply do not have the money, vacation time or resources to go on a vacation.  I get that. And I’ll happily read all about that on your blog and give you tons of helpful/encouraging suggestions.  But … that’s not true for me. At least not completely.

The truth is, I feel as though I deserve a vacation.  And do I truly deserve one? No.  It’s not a thing you can deserve.  At least not in the true sense of really deserving something (like food, shelter, etc.). And honestly, I get annoyed when people say they deserve a vacation.  Because usually those are the people who don’t work very hard AND go on tons of vacations.  So let me take back my original declaration and instead say I’d really really really like to go on a vacation.

Hear me out.

I work hard.  I love my job but it is emotionally demanding.  And I can’t leave my job at 5pm … heck I usually don’t get out of the office until after 6pm.  And then there are the emails that I check incessantly all night and all weekend long.  Even on days “off” I still do work. [and yes ... I know all you moms are kind of laughing and thinking just wait until you have kids! but ... I don't have them yet ... and my life is still busy and full!]

I’ve also been with D for over 4 years. And truth be told … we’ve never really been on what I would consider a vacation vacation.  Confused?

Well … each year, once or twice per year we go to Vancouver to see his friends and family.  And I love them.  But that’s not a vacation vacation.

And we’ve never been somewhere without our computers or cell phones.  Heck … we even had a family member during part of our honeymoon (story for another time).  See what I mean?

So take into account we’ve never really been on a vacation, my job is stressful (though loved!), D is super stressed with his work responsibilities … that in and of itself is enough to warrant a vacation (in my opinion).

But … we’re also going to start trying to conceive (TTC for those bloggy newbies) soon.  That means if all goes to plan (and considering it took my mom 6 years to conceive that’s not a guarantee unfortunately) this could very well be my last vacation to take as a non-mommy.  The last chance D and I have to really connect before we have a kid.  And although I am beyond excited to start TTC (I literally have dozens of blog posts I’m drafting in my head on the subject!) … I want to make sure D and I have as many experiences as we can before we start.  Because let’s face it … if we do get pregnant right away (or soon after starting) our lives are going to change in ways we cannot even imagine.

So we’ve decided we want to vacation this spring.  Probably May.  So now the question is where.  I have some ideas (for another post!) but want to hear from you! Where would you go for a vacation vacation?

I haven’t been on vacation anywhere great in 19 years! I can’t get my hubby to leave NY! LOL! Yes, life after having kids definitely changes things, but for the better!

  2. It’s been over 4 years for us and I am super ready. I want to go somewhere tropical but a family (extended family included) vacation to Fl looks like it will have to do! And that’s only possible because my father and stepmom are willing to help us get there.

I haven’t been on a vacation since I was a kid. My dream vacation would be at a ranch riding horses or in the woods fishing a river.

If this came up twice I am sorry. I posted once but it did not show up.

First time you comment I have to approve and I didn’t see it fast enough! And I agree … you definitely need a vacation!

You should definitely go on a last vacation before trying to conceive. We conceived my daughter on a trip to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. If I took a vacation today I’d have my eye on Grand Cayman!

That’s so cool! I love cruises/beaches but for some reason I don’t want a particularly “relaxing” vacation that a beach brings around … rather I want to “explore.” If that makes any sense!
